For the past 16 years, Lauren Rider has worked on community issues in North Knoxville. She became involved when her neighborhood was working with city engineering on a traffic calming plan. She later gained experience in zoning and planning by working with neighbors throughout the city to oppose a zoning proposal that threatened low-to-moderate income housing. |
MLK Jr. Commission Comm. Lunch - 2020 Lauren then progressed to solving problems of blighted, condemned properties that were slated for demolition by the city at tax-payer expense. She organized community-based efforts to re-build abandoned, condemned properties and return them to the tax rolls. To foster stability in the community, she continues to collaborate with businesses and neighborhoods. |
Council Members get a taste of Firefighter Training! Lauren Rider, a native of Evans, Georgia, is a faculty member at Pellissippi State Community College, serving as the Librarian at their Division Street campus. She previously worked as a Research Librarian in Healthcare at Methodist Medical Center-Oak Ridge, the National Library of Medicine’s Go Local-Indiana project, and at Community Health Network of Indiana. |
